With soaring fuel costs and rising food prices, that is the decision facing millions of pensioners this winter living in fuel poverty and dependent of pension credit.
In the Greater Dartmoor area approximately 15% of all people over the age 65+ are living in poverty.
That equates to over 10,000 people, many of these pensioners will face making tough decisions about whether to pay for heating or food this winter
Over the past 3 years over 500 people have been admitted to Devon hospitals with malnutrition, that is 3 time the national average. Treating malnourished patients is estimated to cost health services £8891.81 per person .
There comes a point where you just can't put more clothes on!
Many of the post-war generation are enduring the same poverty and rationing they endured during and after the war again, today!
We have a rising elderly population who are now facing unsupportable fuel and food hikes. From 1935 to I952 the UK population was subjected to rationing of food, fuel, clothing, transport and household goods…even bricks and timber was rationed. There has never been such poverty since those dark days - until now!
PLEASE help us to support our over 70’s who are forgotten and are now living out their final years in quiet desperation…many unable to leave their homes, many who have lost friends and loved ones during the ongoing pandemic.

In a beautiful picture book area where visitors flock to enjoy the views, it is hard to think that we have hidden rural poverty which is rising daily.
